First Grade Marketplace Brings Real-World Learning to Life

Ms. Holm’s first grade classroom transformed into a lively marketplace as students stepped into the role of young entrepreneurs. Through this engaging, hands-on project, students designed and created their own stores, working collaboratively with business partners to bring their ideas to life.

With the support of generous family donations, each store was stocked with supplies that helped make the experience both authentic and exciting. Students took ownership of their businesses by setting prices, creating budgets, and managing transactions. Throughout the project, they practiced essential math skills such as counting money and making change, while also strengthening communication and teamwork skills.

The marketplace experience unfolded over two days. On the first day, half of the students operated their stores while their partners had the opportunity to shop alongside their families. The following day, students switched roles, allowing everyone to experience both sides of the marketplace.

The classroom was filled with energy, laughter, and meaningful learning as students interacted with customers and supported one another as business partners. It was a memorable experience that blended academic skills with creativity and real-world application.

A special thank you goes out to our families for their donations and participation. Your support helped make this learning experience truly unforgettable for our students.
